Zonotrichia Rarities at Brownton Abbey - January 2016

This Golden-crowned Sparrow first appeared in the yard here in Brownstown Twp, MI on 27 October 2015. It would make several appearances over the next few months. It represents the 5th or 6th State Record and 2nd for Wayne County. I'd been documenting it with photos "through the back window" but only a few with the windows open - convection currents from heat escaping the house can severely distort images, plus I have to worry about spooking the birds while opening the window. These images were digiscoped with the windows open.

This Harris' Sparrow first appeared in the yard here in Brownstown Twp. on 27 Dec 2015. I've been documenting it every time it comes to the feeder by photographing it through the back window. It is a rare bird for Michigan and Wayne Co. Today I decided to take advantage of some mild winter weather and digiscope it from the edge of the house.

Both birds would continue to come to the feeders throughout the winter, sometimes in the company of each other and in the presence of a White-throated Sparrow. I'm hoping a White-crowned Sparrow shows up so that I can get a Zonotrichia Slam (all 4 sparrows in one photo).
